I spoke to one of the parents of a Dakota State runner who was in California. It had rained terribly the day before, and for some reason DSU chose to fly in on Friday to run early Saturday morning when others flew on Thursday.
That said, they represented South Dakota well against an extremely strong Top 10 San Marcos team from California and a top 25 team in British Columbia. Not sure SDSU or USD would have beaten San Marcos that day!
Check out a quote from the San Marcos head coach followed by the top 20 runners with their times:

The course was slow and wet from heavy rain all day yesterday. Several muddy spots and saturated grass.*******
