Personally, I believe Irene-Wakonda is ranked way too high. After finishing as runner-ups to Parker the last 2 years (only by 2 points each year), they are only returning 2 runners. Jack Johnson who finished 8th at the state meet last year, and senior Lucas Gustad. Cash Murphy graduated, and Coach Bridget Sees is no longer at Irene-Wakonda. Also, senior Jake Vollmer, who finished 6th last year at the state meet, transferred to Parker. Irene-Wakonda doesn't even have a enough runners to run as a team and they are ranked 2nd? This could be arguable if Vollmer was still there, but without him they don't have a complete team, and therefore can't contend for a state title for the 3rd straight year. Look for Parker to overwhelmingly win the Class B Boys title, as they have potential to put 4 runners in the top 10. 2nd place will be a toss up between South Central and Estelline.

Whoa ted. Estelline won't be close to 2nd. I honestly can't even see Estelline pulling out a spot in the top 5. They've got Ward but they don't have a sub-19 runner besides him. They won't even win their region. That goes to Great Plains. My top 5 for B 1. Parker 2. South Central 3. Great Plains (They've got 3 who can go sub-18) 4. Irene-Wakonda (They can find a good enough 3rd runner to pull it off.) 5. Wessington Springs (maybe Estelline)

And by sub-18 I mean sub-19.

Class A Boys Team Ave. Rank 1. Custer 1.56 2. Madison 2.14 3. Cheyenne Eagle Butte 2.42 4. Lennox 2.50 5. Milbank 3.25
With a healthy Herman, Custer is awfully tough to contend with. They will score very low.
CEB has some nice runners - I would put them at #2 and as Fullblood said, they will get better as the season moves along (like always).
Madison looks very good right now.......as they always do in early September.
I'll trust the Lennox ranking.
Milbank is terribly overrated here. I see this sort of overall individual 1-4 finishes for them at the state meet (if they qualify as a team):
4 - 44 - 71 - 80
After Berens, the #2 runner is 2 minutes slower. Not good.

Has Witt or Herman been running?

Herman has not yet run; Witt off and on- young Witt is hurt.
Norm is right, CEB will improve as the season goes on; Madison is probably as good as they'll be...albeit pretty good. Lennox will be better than expected, but look for a team like Beresford last season to sneak into the podium.

I am thinking Stevens should be ranked 3rd. They beat brookings in head to head and would have beat Pierre had Pierre ran a full squad .

I am thinking Stevens should be ranked 3rd. They beat brookings in head to head and would have beat Pierre had Pierre ran a full squad . Pierre, Brookings, Stevens, and Brandon Valley are my 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d. What happens the last few weeks could change this dramatically. All four of these teams are similar in that they have a front runner...someone who will place in the top 10. The difference in these four is how they will be affected by throwing in Roosevelt and Lincoln. Pierre's 2-4 runners will mix it up with Lincoln and Roosevelt. Brookings 2-3 runners will mix it up with Lincoln and Roosevelt. Stevens and Brandon Valley's 2-5 runners won't. They will be pushed down adding points to their score. That evens everything out.

I have a feeling Stevens 2-6 pack will be in the 20s to 30s at the state meet. Stevens Number 2 guy (Haaland) ran 1836 at the MOC along with Schlepp of Stevens. Burdick only ran 1830 at the MOC course sophomore year and went on to run 1625 at state. Just a comparison for y'all.

AA girls looks more like it's between Central and Stevens. Stevens girls won't have Gorman and Central girls won't have McCormick or Colhoff on Oct 20th. The top 5 left at each school are close. Top middle school runner Ava Parris 7th running 6:10 mile pace in her 2nd 3k of the season could help decide it for the school that brings her up and help fend off challenges from other schools. At the RC Elks 3k and 4k races yesterday, Ava's 3k pace would have put her at 3rd or 4th place in the 4k high school race.

After looking at times at Russ Strande Invite and matching up runners, and knowing how some runners can implode or explode at state and schools can pick up middle schoolers, AA girls looks more like a 6-way toss-up between RCC, Stevens, Pierre, Brandon Valley, SFW and Aberdeen.
